Treeleaf: The T-Shirt

Yay! We have a final design. The shirts will be black.

To help us get a better idea of how many shirts we'll be ordering please answer the poll above.

We don't have a cost yet, but once we know how many shirts we'll be getting, we should have a much better idea of the cost.

What wonderful work. I think the design it great. A good compromise, as you can never, NEVER make everyone happy. So, well done on trying to make as many people happy as possible.

I'll definitely take two, but might wait until we decide on a place to order from to decide on size. I find that it varies wildly as I have XL shirts that are too small, others that size that are like a tent, and L shirts that fit fine! And I like my shirts a bit roomy!

I'm going to try to source the shirts themselves through American Apparel. These shirts are very nice and made in the USA with fair labor. Here's a link to their size chart.

Once we get a 'close-to' idea on how many shirts we'll be ordering we'll get an exact cost and then we'll start the ordering process where you can specify size and quantity. I might actually try to make a small, temporary online store for this purpose.

As for clicking 'yes' in the poll when you wanted to click the non-existent 'maybe' button will throw things off a little bit. Please only select it if you are reasonable certain you can do it. - Thanks!

Thank you again for being so supportive during this lengthy process. I know things could be simpler going through an online printer, but I'd really like these to be nice shirts that will last.

Of course, the "Made in the USA" part is not vital, but labor protections are a good thing.

There might be people who find it very expensive to import the T-shirts to their countries.

In Mexico for example, importing clothes goes as high as paying up to 500% the cost of the item in taxes, depending on where the fabric or manufacture were made in. That happens if a single thread of the article was made in China. Yup... not a very good relationship with the Song Country.

Shipping can get expensive as well, depending where you are.

So what about if people who have theses problems printed their own t-shirts? We could send them the artwork and they'd buy their T's locally. And then they could donate the money to the charity we choose.

For me that would work, but then again, it's just a thought.

Indeed, that's a problem. I'm certainly not going to stop anyone from making their own shirts. In fact, I think that's wonderful, but it's too bad that we have these challenges to contend with. Would we have the same problem if the item was manufactured in the US?

I'll have to do some research, but perhaps we will just setup an online store with one of the online places that deal with international orders in way that makes it easier for those in 'complicated' areas to ship-to. If you have suggestions here, I'd love to hear about them.

Very good point. In fact one does not automatically lend itself to the other.

I'm pretty sure if the shirts are ordered in the states, we could ship them to anyone as a gift without all of those import headaches. I could be wrong though. I have been before.

I usually look for made in USA because I want to support laborers in my own country, but failing that I usually look for things made in countires with democracy which means bureaucracy which hopefully means oversight. Other methods of finding things we need at a fair price made by fairly paid workers is always welcome.

I did look around for fair trade shirts, but they are harder than expected to source. While I am not settled on any one brand of shirts, I do know the quality of these T's and I also know they are made with fair labor practices. If anyone has any suggestions for fair-trade shirts, shoot them over.

ps.: Looked around and it seems in Europe I could get them around 25..30 Euro (roughly 30..36 US$), let me know if I should get a quote for the amount we need (of course fairtrade and environmental).

Things are slow during the summer anyway, with holidays and comings and goings.

I've been travelling most of the summer but will be home in a few weeks and can coordinate with you to move things along if you wish.
