Wondrous.
For those newer folks who may not know what is this "Takuhatsu" ... the practice of alms gathering, one of the disciplines undertaken by Buddhist monks ... beyond all thought of giver and receiver.
Below is a video of temple Takuhatsu. The monks sing "HO! .... Dharma" ....
And here is a picture of Taigu's way, standing in front of the train station ...

Thank you for sharing this. I know that in South East Asia Buddhist monasteries rely on dana almost 100% and I understand that lays followers there believe that giving dana to monks brings a lot of merits to them. I wonder what's the situation in Japan where Buddhism has a different flavor?
I know of a beautiful place on a bridge over the Kamagawa near Gion...

I've seem and contributed to monks standing takuhatsu many times throughout Japan. It is an inspiring ritual. However, watching the video I'm reminded of a flock of geese flying in formation; everyone honking to give encouragement to the leader. Also, I enjoyed seeing the "I ♥ Obama" banner (6:11); sort of lends to the authenticity of modern Japan :D

Glad to hear you remember the dpot and where to throw my ashes when the time comes.
This time, Dokan, I will go for a station.

To throw one's ashes into a flowing river to some, is a disservice to the survivors. One needs an actual place to pay homage to their deceased loved one.gassho, [monk]gassho2Quote:
No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.

1. Thank you for sharing gassho1
2. That is an awesome hat. I am jealous [monk]
Question: I've always been confused about what "Ho" means in this context. Is it "dharma"? Or I thought I had heard somewhere that in takuhatsu it simply refers to the bowl?
Thanks in advance for the clarification....
Deep bows, Thank you!
