Re: John Daido Loori, Roshi
Yes, to me too. A glorious teacher.
Re: John Daido Loori, Roshi
His writings were some of the first that I encountered and had a big influence on my decision to pursue Zen practice. He will be missed.

Re: John Daido Loori, Roshi
Very sad news indeed. I had hoped to hear him speak in person someday, but we are fortunate to have so many writings. Still, not the same.
I also received a message recently saying that Toni Packer's health had left her confined to her home. Great voices, never enough time to hear them all.
Re: John Daido Loori, Roshi
I just finished Eight Gates of Zen, one of a number of his books I have read. He will be missed even as he lives on in all of us.

Re: John Daido Loori, Roshi
Our weekly Zazenkai today will be dedicated to Daido Roshi, a teacher for all of us.
He lives on. He has not gone anywhere, for he never came from. ... great loss, no loss, oh great loss.
His talks ... oh, those sweet, wise, wonderful talks ... are always right at hand. If you have never heard a Daido Dharma Discourse... jump in anywhere (but find the audio versions if you can. so his warm wise and wise-cracking self can shine through) ...

He is a great teacher, only his body left this world, but he is not really come or go.
Gassho for him, Mujo

Re: John Daido Loori, Roshi
Condolences to his family and the Sangha of Zen Mountain Monastery.
One of my treasured items by Roshi is a short essay "Art as Teacher" and a box of 40 separate works of Zen Art with a Zen commentary of each by Roshi, along with an art commentry by Stephen Addiss. His commentary on Ten Thousand Dharmas Return to the One, sat in front of my computer during Jukai this last January.
