    The Thirty-ninth Gate

    Not to quarrel is a gate of Dharma illumination; for it stops angry
    accusations.

    Quarrel:

    an angry dispute or altercation; a disagreement marked by a temporary or permanent break in friendly relations.


    May we together with all buddhas
    Practice avoidance of quarreling
    That we may be free from angry accusations

    May this offering bring peace to all beings
    May our actions ...

    The Thirty-eighth Gate

    Reflection on impurity is a gate of Dharma illumination; for [with it] we abandon the mind that is tainted by desire.

    Impurity:
    not pure; mixed with extraneous matter of inferior or contaminating nature

    May we together with all buddhas
    Practice avoidance of impurities
    That our minds may be free from desires

    May this offering bring peace to all beings

    Clarify our beliefs and understandings
    That we may truly see reality.

    That our minds may be free of doubt,

    That we may be loving, grateful and kind
